United Way campaign launch Sept. 12

The local United Way will kick off its multi-million-dollar annual fundraising campaign with a launch event Wednesday morning at Market Square in front of city hall.
The money raised through the campaign benefits more than 80 social service programs across Guelph and Wellington and Dufferin counties, a news release said.
The kickoff event will celebrate the contributions of the thousands of donors and volunteers who come together to make the work of these programs possible, it said.
The launch runs from 8 to 9 a.m., with a presentation at 8:30 a.m. United Way campaign chair and Linamar Corp. president and chief operating officer Jim Jarrell will speak at the event, as will Mayor Karen Farbridge and United Way executive director Ken Dardano.
